Our customers are the ones who make Amperity come alive. And in addition to being data druids and marketing magicians, they're just cool people. Collaborating with them is a big part of what makes us get excited to beam into work every day! Rather than keeping them all to ourselves, we'll be introducing some of our customers here.
Phil in Four:
- Phil Rubins is a data engineer at Planet Fitness
- For over a year, he’s been actively building queries and segments in Amperity instead of his legacy Enterprise Data Warehouse
- He’s participating in our self-service product beta which gives him access to load data, create databases, and set up new sources
- Phil also shreds on bass guitar when he’s not shredding data for Planet Fitness
Q&A With Phil
What’s the coolest thing you’ve been able to do with Amperity data for Planet Fitness?
It depends who you ask! Folks from across our marketing, business strategy, and analytics teams have all leveraged the Customer 360 for too many cool things to list. I’ve been lucky enough to be the data resource for many projects enabled by the Customer 360, like servicing our next-gen Customer Profile, and refactoring our Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform to use Amperity ID as the primary key.
Amperity has quickly become the center of our data universe. Its unification of data across multiple channels allows Planet Fitness to execute a cutting-edge data strategy.
Assuming you’ve saved time cleaning up and accessing data, what have you been able to do instead?
In addition to unlocking new insights in our data, it’s very fast and easy to fire off quick queries in Amperity. This allows us to spend more time on the important stuff that never gets any faster, like report formatting and data validation. (Fun, right?)
I often find myself querying our source data within Amperity, it’s that fast!
Since participating with the product beta, what’s next? What do you want to do with your increased capabilities?
The sky’s the limit – this week was my first foray into the product beta, and the training did an excellent job setting us up for success. It’s really cool to be offered this functionality that enables code ownership and autonomy within Amperity. Of course, I need to shout out our awesome Engagement Manager, Yi Li-Yuen, for her help and dedication in turning the functionality of the product beta into a reality for us!
Who is your favorite musician and why?
Hands down, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan. I play in a Steely Dan cover band, and have performed all but one of their albums front-to-back (including unreleased material and side projects) to HIGHLY mixed reaction from unsuspecting bar-goers.
The duo of Steely Dan is one of most tragically overlooked groups of American popular music. In this essay I will… lol just kidding :)

Phil and his buddy Otto.
