Your Ad Platforms Optimize on What You Confirm

Give ad platforms a more complete view of online and offline conversions so they can measure performance and optimize toward better outcomes.

Every ad platform can optimize toward the outcomes your brand values, but only when the platform knows those outcomes occurred. What your business knows about a conversion and what an ad platform can observe are often two different things.

A pixel might capture a purchase completed on your website. It cannot automatically see the store purchase, phone order, branch application, dealership sale, or booking completed days later. Conversion APIs help close that gap by sending online and offline outcomes directly from your customer data to the platforms managing your media spend.

Key Takeaways

  • Ad platforms can measure and optimize only against the conversion signals they receive, which makes incomplete data both a reporting problem and a performance problem.

  • Server-side conversion APIs can return purchases, leads, sign-ups, applications, bookings, and other meaningful outcomes that pixels do not capture on their own.

  • Strong conversion signals depend on accurate identity matching, a trustworthy definition of the conversion, and delivery that fits each platform's requirements.

  • Amperity connects resolved customer data with conversion events across retail media, CTV, social, search, and owned channels.

Why ad platforms miss valuable conversions

Ad platforms typically begin with the activity they can observe in their own environments or through their tags. That view is useful, but it is rarely the brand's complete record of what happened.

A customer may see an ad and finish a purchase in a store. A lead may submit a form and close through a call center. Unless the completed outcome returns to the ad platform, the platform may optimize toward the nearest observable action instead of the result the business values. The gap grows as media plans expand into retail media, connected TV, and social platforms that receive less first-party conversion data.

Partial conversion signals create two costs

Incomplete conversion data first creates a measurement problem. Each platform reports against the outcomes it can see. If one platform receives your completed purchases while another receives only on-site activity, their performance metrics are based on unequal information even when the numbers appear next to each other in the same report.

Channels associated with offline or delayed conversions are particularly easy to undervalue. Missing those outcomes can make a productive channel look inefficient and lead teams to reduce spend that contributes to revenue.

The same gap affects optimization. An ad platform's model learns from the conversions you confirm and the people associated with them. If a brand sends form fills but not completed sales, the platform can become better at finding people likely to submit forms rather than people likely to buy. A channel with incomplete conversion data can therefore look worse and become less effective because its models learn from a narrower definition of success.

What makes a conversion signal strong?

A strong conversion signal is matchable, true to the business outcome, and formatted for the destination receiving it.

Match: Connect the event to the right customer

A conversion event is useful only when the receiving platform can associate it with a person, account, device, or advertising interaction. Depending on the platform, matching can use hashed email addresses, phone numbers, click identifiers, mobile advertising IDs, external IDs, UID2, or other approved identifiers.

For example, Google Enhanced Conversions can use click IDs for web or app purchases and hashed email or phone data for in-store purchases. Amperity normalizes and hashes supported personal identifiers before upload. Supplying more valid identifiers can improve the opportunity for a match, subject to platform requirements and customer permissions.

Identity resolution helps connect transactions and other events with the identifiers needed for activation. Instead of asking every media pipeline to solve identity independently, the brand can build from the same resolved customer foundation used for its audiences and customer profiles.

Truth: Send the outcome the business actually counts

A useful event is assembled from the business's source data, not simply forwarded from the closest available system. For a purchase, that may mean filtering returns and cancellations, collapsing duplicate records by order ID, deriving item values, and identifying whether the transaction occurred online, in an app, or in a store.

The same principle applies beyond purchases. A conversion might be a qualified lead, approved application, completed appointment, new account, or confirmed booking. The event should represent the stage that matters to the business rather than an earlier action that was easier to capture.

Fit: Meet each platform's requirements

Conversion APIs do not share one specification. Platforms vary in supported event types, identifiers, recency windows, deduplication rules, consent fields, and source classifications.

For example, Amazon Ads CAPI accepts defined conversion types and event sources, requires at least one supported identifier, and accepts events from the previous 21 days. TikTok Ads supports web and offline event sources with its own identifiers and attribution windows. The Trade Desk can receive offline events using email, phone, UID2, or EUID under the appropriate configuration.

Building each connection independently means maintaining a separate pipeline for every platform. Pre-built event connectors handle destination-specific mapping while the brand controls which approved data and events it sends.

Send conversion events across more of the media mix

Amperity has expanded its conversion and event API support across the channels where brands invest. The current event configuration documentation includes the following destinations:

Media area

Supported destinations

Retail and commerce media

Amazon Ads Conversion API, Criteo, Criteo Offline Sales

CTV and programmatic

Roku Conversions API, The Trade Desk

Social

Meta Ads Manager, Pinterest, TikTok Ads

Search and measurement

Google Enhanced Conversions, Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Ads Conversions API, Microsoft Advertising offline conversions

Owned messaging

Attentive ecommerce and conversion events, Braze Purchases

Supported events and availability differ by destination. Amazon Ads CAPI, Microsoft Ads Conversions API, and Roku Conversions API are currently documented as beta connectors. Teams should review the documentation for each destination before deciding which events, identifiers, and schedules to configure.

The breadth matters because a brand's media mix should not determine how much conversion truth each platform receives. A store purchase can inform CTV or social optimization. An offline lead can return to search. A confirmed conversion can also move into an owned channel, such as Braze or Attentive, to reduce irrelevant follow-up.

Close the loop on paid media optimization

Conversion events are one part of Paid Media Optimization. The same resolved customer foundation that helps a brand create high-quality audiences also helps make the resulting conversions matchable when they return.

That creates a connected loop: build audiences from unified first-party data, activate them across the media mix, return meaningful conversion events, and use the results to improve measurement and the next round of optimization. Better audiences going out and better signals coming back reinforce one another.

Brands can compare channels using a more consistent picture of performance, give platform models outcomes that better reflect business value, and coordinate paid and owned marketing around the same customer activity.

How to start sending conversion events

Review the full list of supported event destinations and identify the platforms where missing online, offline, or delayed conversions create the largest measurement gap.

Existing Amperity customers can work with their Amperity administrator, customer success manager, or account team to confirm availability and configure the appropriate events.
