Mailchimp integration with Amperity
Bring customer context into Mailchimp audience selection. Amperity sends query results through the Mailchimp Marketing API, mapping email addresses, audience fields, and new-member subscription status while applying a configured tag to exported contacts.

Make Mailchimp outreach more relevant
Select contacts using customer context available in Amperity.
Carry names and birthdays into Mailchimp audience fields.
Organize exported contacts with a recognizable Mailchimp tag.
Check audience results before recurring exports begin.
How the Amperity Mailchimp connector works
Build the query. Select email addresses, relevant attributes, and known subscription status for the contacts you intend to export.
Connect the audience. Choose the configured destination and map query output to the target audience’s fields.
Validate the export. Run the orchestration manually, inspect the results in Mailchimp, then enable an automatic workflow if required.
A query export prepares audience data for Mailchimp. Message preparation and sending remain in Mailchimp.
What the Mailchimp audience integration supports
Capability | Supported behavior |
|---|---|
Direction and method | Amperity to Mailchimp through the Mailchimp Marketing API. |
Destination objects | Audience members, mapped audience fields, and a configured contact tag. |
Identity | Email address required. Mailchimp’s member API uses subscriber_hash: MD5 of lowercase email. |
Authentication and targeting | API key, data center ID, List ID, List name, and Tag name. |
Refresh and membership | Manual validation, then optional automatic orchestration. Replacement and deletion behavior is not documented. |
How Mailchimp objects map to Amperity exports
Map query output to the target audience, its member fields, and the configured contact tag. Use the references below to align audience IDs and field tags before validating an export.
Mailchimp object | Amperity mapping | Documentation |
|---|---|---|
Audience | List ID selects the target audience (list_id). | |
Member | email maps to required email_address; subscriber_hash is the API member identifier. | |
Merge fields | Map names and birthdays to the audience’s configured FNAME, LNAME, and BIRTHDAY tags. | |
Contact tag | Tag name applies a label to exported contacts; it is separate from merge-field tags. | |
New-member status | status maps to status_if_new; connector values: subscribed or unsubscribed. |
Put Mailchimp audience data to work
Prepare birthday outreach for subscribed contacts
Use customer birthdates and a known subscription-status table to identify people approaching a birthday. Select the contacts who are eligible for your email program, and include names and birthday values in the export. Review the resulting audience fields in Mailchimp before preparing the message. This gives your team a defined audience for the occasion, with the customer attributes needed to make the greeting relevant.
Keep exported customer groups recognizable
Choose a customer group in Amperity using the context your team has available, then assign a recognizable tag in the Mailchimp destination settings. The tag helps colleagues identify contacts delivered through that export when organizing outreach in Mailchimp. Agree on the tag’s meaning before scheduling repeated runs, and review how people leave the group separately. Use the exported group as an input to campaign planning and audience review.
Set up the Mailchimp connection with clear requirements
A Datagrid Operator or Amperity representative configures the destination. Setup requires a Mailchimp API key and data center ID; the documented orchestration settings include List ID, List name, and Tag name.
Define the destination audience’s merge fields before mapping values. Verify required fields and types in that audience, since Mailchimp’s default field tags are editable.
Test in an Amperity sandbox and verify a sample in Mailchimp before production. The documented status mapping uses status_if_new, so confirm existing-contact handling before using exports to manage subscription changes.
